In view of rising COVID-19 cases in Telangana, the government has taken a key decision to implement a curfew during night time. The government has declared that, starting from today, i.e. April 20 until May 1, a curfew will be in effect during the time 9 PM to 5 AM. All offices, institutions, shops & businesses must be closed by 8 PM. Hospitals, diagnostic labs, pharmacies, and other emergency services are exempt from this curfew.
Some emergency services are as follows:
- Print, Electronic Media
- Telecommunications, Internet services, Broadcasting & Cable services, IT & IT enabled services
- e-Commerce delivery
- Petrol pumps, LPG, CNG gas outlets
- Electricity generation and transmission
- Water transmission & purification
- Cold storage & food storage warehouses
- Private security services
This decision was taken in the backdrop of an alarming rise in COVID-19 cases across India, which is being termed as the second wave. Various states & cities across India have already declared lockdown / curfew orders. A week-long lockdown in New Delhi, 2 week long lockdown in Rajasthan are currently being enforced to curb the spread.
Telangana has seen 5,926 new positive cases and 18 deaths due to COVID-19 yesterday. Of these new cases, 793 cases are from inside GHMC premises. Since the beginning of this epidemic, a total of 1,856 people in Telangana have lost their lives due to complications arising from this virus. The state currently has 42,853 active cases as per the government’s latest press release.
