The Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM), umbrella body of almost 40 protesting farmers’ unions, have called for a Bharat Bandh tomorrow on March 26, from 6 AM to 6 PM, as it marks four months of protests at Delhi border. Rail and road transport are likely to be affected. Markets and public places will be closed across the country.
Both the ruling TRS party in Telangana and YSRCP in Andhra Pradesh, who have been supporting the protests since they began, have expressed solidarity and extended support to the Bharat Bandh. Along with these parties, opposition parties (except BJP) like the TDP, Congress party, CPI(M) and Jana Sena party have also expressed full support for the bandh. All parties have appealed for a peaceful bandh.
Andhra Pradesh CM YS Jagan said that the Modi government caused a great amount of trouble to common man with its oves like demonetisation, introducing GST regime, amendments in Labour Laws, restricting the freedom of the press and others, and now the government has targetted the farming community.
Farmers all over the country have been protesting against the infamous Farm Bills proposed and passed by the Parliament in September 2020. Protestors allege that these laws close down agriculture markets, deprive farmers of profitable price for their agricultural produce and will lead to a contract system, ultimately forcing the farmers to lose control over their lands.
